Classic Modern – the foundation of art karlsruhe

Diversity, new beginnings and artistic revolution
In the 20th century, art broke radically with the past. Instead of retrospective stylistic references, stylistic diversity emerged: Cubism arose in France, Suprematism and Constructivism in Russia, and the Bauhaus in Germany.
Classical modernism united pioneers such as Pablo Picasso, Marcel Duchamp, Hans Arp, Kazimir Malevich, Piet Mondrian and Jackson Pollock – not through a single style, but through their revolutionary spirit. However, they were by no means always in agreement: fierce artistic debates, lost friendships and new movements characterised the era.
Cubists, Futurists, Dadaists and Surrealists created something new – often in collectives: Der Blaue Reiter, Die Brücke, Dada, the Vienna Secession and the muralists in Mexico with Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera.
German Expressionism and Abstract Expressionism in the USA also have their place within this fascinatingly dynamic era. Classical Modernism – not a uniform style, but a new beginning that changed art forever.
With its charisma and timeless strength, Classical Modernism forms the heart of art karlsruhe – discover its fascination in Hall 1 at selected galleries.
