A premiere in 2018: the art KARLSRUHE Collection on display for the first time
Galerie Smudajescheck mit der Künstlerin Neringa Vasiliauskaite aus Litauen erhielten den Preis 2017
The art KARLSRUHE Prize for the best one-artist-show has been awarded annually at the homonymous fair for the past ten years. With this award, the State of Baden-Württemberg and the City of Karlsruhe jointly honour an artist and his or her gallerist for the best one-artist-show, which is selected by a jury of high-carat experts. Artworks with a total value of 15,000 euros from a year’s award-winning one-artist-show are acquired for the art KARLSRUHE Collection.
Dr. Brigitte Baumstark, director of the Städtische Galerie in Karlsruhe, has supervised this collection from its inception. “The art KARLSRUHE Prize is distinguished by openness and by direct grappling with current art and its presentation in the additional framework of the one-art-show. This naturally results in a variety of outstanding artistic positions for the choice of prize-winners. When one views the artists and their works, one can see that they all share artistic quality and contemporaneity as inherent principles. It is a logical consequence to integrate these artworks into a larger collection. This builds on existing items and fosters an expanded dialogue among the artworks,” the director comments.
The art KARLSRUHE Collection currently comprises 50 works of art. The exhibit will display pictures and sculptures by artists such as Reto Boller (2008), Jessica Buhlmann (2014), Tatjana Doll (2012), Julius Grünewald (2010) and Jens Hanke (2011). Alfonso Hüppi (2015), Thomas Müller (2009), Werner Schmidt (2016), Neringa Vasiliauskaite (2017) and Claude Wall (2013) will also be represented. The spectrum ranges from sketches (Müller), through oil paintings (Grünewald), to objects (Boller).
The special show will be presented in the dm-arena / Hall 4.
