Post War

Freedom, experimentation and new perspectives
After 1945, art reinvented itself – bold, diverse and full of breaks. Artists questioned boundaries, broke them down and made room for new forms, positions and ideas. Between Informel and Pop Art, Zero, Conceptual Art and Fluxus, a fascinating field of tension emerged that continues to have an impact today.
It was an age of rethinking, marked by political upheaval, social change and a longing for expression beyond the familiar. Instead of stylistic guidelines, individual approaches and international dialogue dominated.
art karlsruhe picks up on this dynamic: in Hall 2, it brings together renowned galleries with important positions in art after 1945 – from the upheavals of the post-war period to contemporary developments.
